T-Rex 450 SE Log
20/09/2008 450 Belt
Spooled up the 450 and the tail spun around, I noted that the tail blades where not spinning, the belt had snapped. Back home it looks like the boom is bent and the belt has rubbed and snapped, glad it didn't happen in the air.
13-14/09/2008 North Notts Fly-in ~ 450 Flights 44-47 ~ Crash 8
Four flights with the 450 at this years North Notts fly-in. I had to replace the main shaft on the Saturday after I crashed it with it landed trying to set the tx timer going.
07/09/2008 Flights 41-43
Three trouble free flights with the 450.
21/08/2008 Flight 40 ~ Crash 7
Lunch time flying and the rebuilt 450 was flying great, so I thought I'd try a stall turn, as I crashed doing this on my last flight. It didn't go well, I crashed, and I got smoke coming out of the motor, not good :(
13/07/2008 Flights 37-39 ~ Crash 6
Heli flying very well, even trying 540 degree stall turns, until I did one straight into the ground.
29/05/2008 Flight 36 ~ Crash 5
I did one traveling flip with the 450, it looked really good, so tried it agian, it didn't look so good...it crashed. Looks like only the main shaft has been damaged.
20/05/2008 Flights 34-35
Lunchtime flying.
17/05/2008 Clubman 3DX Fly-in ~ Flights 32-33
Two indoor flights with my 450, it was quite a small space, half a tennis court, which made it a good challenge.
11/05/2008 Park Hall Fly-in ~ Flights 29-31
A hot Sunday at the Park Hall Fly-in, first time I've been to the field and they have a good site, very friendly with good refreshments, one for the calendar next year.
07/05/2008 Flight 28
I got a FlyCamOne Version 2 today to take some aerial photos and videos, I quickly strapped it to the T-Rex 450 for a practice the video came out well.
05/05/2008 Flight 27
I'd crashed the Raptor so I had one quick fly with the 450 before going home to repair.
03/05/2008 Flight 26
Just the one 450 flight to test the rebuild.
31/03/2008 Flights 23-25 ~ Crash 4
Another e loop in to the ground :-(
27/03/2008 Flights 21-22
First flights with each of my new Revolution 2200mAh packs.
14/03/2008 Flight 20
Test flight with my new Spektrum DX7 :-)
12/01/2008 Flights 17-19 ~ Crash 3
Flight 1 was ok. Flight 2 I started to try stall turns. Flight 3 was going well with some stall turns, loops and rolls, but then I did a 'e' loop, straight into the ground.
11/01/2008 Flights 15-16
Two flights with the rebuilt T-Rex, flying well, mainly hovering with some figure 8's (No Loops!).
31/12/2007 Flight 14 ~ Crash 2
I think this is the first flight where I've actually flown the T-Rex :) However confidence got the better of me and at the end of my flight I decided to try a loop. It went ok until the end and the loop finished to far away and I lost orientation, the crash soon followed. Pics in the T-Rex gallery. Parts List:
Main Blades Spindle Tail Boom
Main Shaft Flybar
26/12/2007 Flight 13
Boxing day flying and I got three of my models up in the air :)
14/07/2007 Flight 12 ~ Crash 1
I went up to Beverley again as it was late Saturday evening. During the flight I decided to land, and came down too close to some long grass. The main rotor got caught up in it. Damage so far as I can tell is Main Blades, Main Gear, and Spindle.
12/07/2007 Flights 10-11
Tail fixed :) I should have figured this out before, but I've not seen the tail wag problem first hand before.
11/07/2007 Flights 8-9
I went to fly at Routh tonight but the gate was shut. So I went flying on Beverley Westwood for the first time. While flying I had a thought, maybe the tail rod was not set up properly in non heading hold mode and that this could be the cause of my problem with the tail. So I put the gyro into rate mode. The tail held firm, I was well pleased that I'd set the tail up so well. You should now know what I had done (And so should have I).

So back at home and still none the wiser about my tail troubles I started to look over the heli again, still nothing. Then I tried punting the gyro into rate mode again. The heading hold LED stayed lit! Bingo it all clicked into place I'd plugged the gyro gain channel into the wrong slot on the receiver, so I was running 100% gain DOH! I quickly changed the connection ready for my next flight.
10/07/2007 Flights 6-7
A bit of a break since flight 5 and I've moved the tail rod guides so the tail rod has a straighter run but still the same problem. I'm scratching my head a bit now.
12/06/2007 Flight 5
I started to fly the Carbon Falcon this lunch time, however I soon crashed it and broke some of the rods, so I got the T-Rex out for one quick fly. Still got the tail problems, after looking at the tail in more detail I noticed that the tail rod guides had not been glued straight, could this be the problem? This means I've flown three days in a row :)
11/06/2007 Flights 3-4
It's monday and I took my new heli to work, this was the main reason for want this little heli there is a field next to my office. So counted I the minutes to lunch time. At 12:00 I was out flying for two more flights. The tail wag was still a problem, and today I tried changing the gain on gyro, this did not seem to have any effect.
10/06/2007 Flights 1-2
After a LONG time I've finally finished building the T-Rex and today was the maiden flight. It was ideal conditions at the Routh with good visibility and only a light breeze. I was quite nervous as this is the first heli that I've completely built and set up by myself. I lifted it straight into a hover with only small trim adjustments required. The two flights were just hovering at eye level to get use to it. The only problem I noted was that the tail would sometimes bounce/wag after using rudder or changing height, which I found a little unnerving. It was great to get it in the air and flying :)
